Why We Have Speed Limits
Speed limits are set to improve safety on our roads. Setting a limit on speed reduces the frequency and severity of road crashes and also reduces possible variations in speed, which increases the number of road crashes.
Default Limits
Speed limits indicate the maximum vehicle speed that is permitted on that road. In South Australia, there are two general default speed limits:
50 km/h is the maximum speed limit on roads within a built up area unless a different speed is signposted.
100 km/h is the maximum speed limit on roads outside a built-up area where no other speed limit is signposted.
Creepers are fined more than anyone else on the road. Stop Creeping!
