If you’re thinking about having a drink or two, you could also decide what to do with the car. These days it’s easier to leave it behind altogether - it's not worth the risk.

Whether you live in the city or in the country there are alternatives to driving.

So, what do you and your mates do?

Tell us where in SA you live and how you and your mates get around when you're having a few drinks.

  • > Do you cab it to a mates place or catch the bus to the pub?
  • > Do you bag a swag and stay the night?
  • > Or get dropped off by a friend and then cab it home?

I live a little further than the Hills and often use the public service from Mount Barker to the City, especially the after midnight saturday services. I think it's fantastic and there should be more, especially Friday nights when a large percent of people my age go out to Town, as parties are few and far between because they always get shut down. I have written to Adelaide Metro complaining and have created a facebook group. I also work at Adelaide Hills Council and I'm trying to work out a way to be able to gain some more public transport to prevent drink driving.

This is the group, add it if your interested and if enough people ask for more transport, we'll eventually get it

Renee says:

This campaign is so boring. It is unattractive, therefore not appealing and defeats the entire purpose of the campaign. No message is being transferred from the government to drink drivers. Improve the public transport systems. Funding is being places in the wrong areas and the feedback from people on this website should be considered in order to make a more effective campaign. That is, feedback NOT from Ickus.

Kristy says:

The availability, costs and security when seeking public transport outside Adelaide is terrible. When there are no trains running, no bus routes, taxi waits of over an hour and sleeping in your car placing you at risk of assault no wonder people drive after drinking!

jack says:

yeah, josh your right my mum drinks that stuff with jimbeam.lol=]
well when she's out i have a glass of that stuff it's great mate ; ] !!!!!!

Joe says:

ADELAIDE NEEDS BETTER BUS SYSTEMS. on fridays my last bus is at 7.35 pm(from the city), thats a joke. Plus ive been assaulted on the bus before and really i couldnt do anything, i was put in a headlock, but because its 'minor' i really couldnt get the police to do anything. so wheres the saftey in that...just wait till someone gets seriously hurt and then make the buses safe? busing it Would be the best,,, If it werent so dodgy.

old grumblebum port augusta says:

tools like ickus and his d/head mates should rounded up and sent to siberia.....i advocate zero alcohol content for all drivers everywhere.....

ROBERT LONG says:

i swag a bag and stay the night

Rhys says:

Alcohol is simply poison, it should be banned from pubs, nightclubs, clubs, etc.

Person says:

Can i have some oorange juice too?

Josh says:

I can't stop thinking about drinking... Orange juice! Gotta luv that stuff :D

Ernie says:

I do not live in SA but my mates and I use Maxi Taxi.

Ickus says:

me and my mates love getting in the car and going for a hoon after a few cold beers. the only way to get around while drunk is driving, nothing beats the feeling, its really just so intense, we love it. from the pub for a few drinks then off to the city, then once thats done and we cant walk properly its off for a cruise to wake some mates up to chill and do some burnouts.

Outoftowner says:

Pick up your act Adelaide. You want to have world class events? You want to be 'on the map'? Your public transport out of hours is a joke!!!!Isn't it time you grew up??

Andy says:

i think people that drink should be locked away and the key should be thrown away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Veronica says:

In Adelaide we are in close proximity to pretty much everything, why drive when you can cab it, although the cab drivers of late leave a lot to be desired, perhaps improve the quality of this service as it has dropped off and more of us would jump in that cab without a second thought.

Mandy says:

proabably try and score a lift in and then cab home...

Sam says:

I live in town, so I just walk home!

Lyn says:

I would catch the train or bus... oh but that's right, they all turn into pumpkins at midnight except for New Year's Eve. That means when the fringe is on you cannot see a late show unless you drive in. It's too expensive to cab it home, and parkings pretty stiff too.. and you can't drink. Boring.
So I don't go out mostly. If I do, it is usually to a mate's place, and I stay the night if I am drinking.

Adelaide public transport sucks.

paula alexander says:

cant afford cabs EITHER WAY at all - live at Christies Beach
stay at mates, sleep in car, drive and get back to my car somehow next day. I do not feel safe on public transport or walking from/to stop after dark. Way too dangerous for a single chick on transport and walking to it. Otherwise just zero alcohol and drive - very boring night usually like to drink;o)

Katie says:

I live in a small country town, and having been in the CFS for a while i have seen the effects of alcohol and driving. Simple answer; i dont drink! I make sure my friends get home in one piece!!

Zack says:

Live in Whyalla. usually walk so by the time im home im kinda sober. otherwise call up mates for a lift. there's usually a few who will.

Gareth says:

Stay with mates and let them sort it out (I trek down from the country on weekends)

Steevo says:

The Mrs chauffeurs me back and forth hey : D

Rozzie Bear says:

I live in Plympton and the tram is pretty convenient for after work drinks. There's extra trams Friday evening, so that makes getting home easy. Last tram leaves Vic Sq at 11.45 so as long as I'm on that it's all good!

Sammww says:

So devo.... mum/dad make me be home by 1130.... so at least they pick me up:-/

Beth says:

I usually get a lift in and cab it home. Or sometimes I leave my car in town and pick it up the next day.

James says:

My mates will sometimes stay over - so we grab a cab and split it...

Pete says:

Walk... it burns off the booze I've just had!

Josh says:

Designated driver!
