‘Shut Up and Drive’

You are four times more likely to cause a crash if you use a mobile phone while driving. Nothing is more important than driving safely. So Shut Up and Drive.

In 2007, Police reported “Inattention” as a contributing factor in 42% of fatal road crashes, 46% of serious injuries and 44% of casualty crashes.

Using a mobile phone is only one behaviour that can prevent you from driving safely. Eating, drinking, lighting a cigarette, applying make up, interacting with passengers, changing a CD or radio station or interacting with a GPS system are a few other behaviours that regularly distract drivers. None of these actions are more important that driving safely.

If you get caught using a hand held mobile phone, you’ll get an on-the-spot fine of $209 and lose 3 demerit points.

Switch off your phone, buy a bluetooth set, use an earpiece cable, install a car cradle, pull over or simply don’t pick up when driving.
