Buying a new car?

A number of safety-conscious car dealers in South Australia are displaying ANCAP crash test ratings on all 4 and 5 star rated cars in their showrooms. The star ratings provide important information about how safe a vehicle would be in a crash.

The ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) tests new vehicles under controlled laboratory conditions to determine how well they protect occupants in a crash. Each car is then given a rating out of 5 stars depending on its performance in the crash test. The number of stars the car scores reflects how well it is designed to protect the occupants.

Buying a used car?

The Used Car Safety Rating brochure gives safety ratings for 197 vehicle models which cover most of the popular vehicles in the Australian and New Zealand vehicle fleets, manufactured from 1996 to 2011.

It's worth taking a few minutes to read and find out how the vehicle you are considering purchasing compares for safety. Those few minutes could save a life – your own, your passenger's or that of another road user.
