Fatigue

Rest before fatigue hits

Did you know driving after being awake for 17 to 19 hours is equivalent to driving with a BAC of around 0.05%? At this level, the risk of a crash is double than at zero. Driving after 24 to 27 hours is equivalent to driving with a BAC of around 0.1%. At this level the risk of a crash is seven times greater.

The 2007/08 Fatigue campaign aims to educate drivers on how to avoid becoming fatigued and illustrate ways to counteract fatigue after its initial onset.

Campaign message

The campaign aims to encourage drivers to rest before they become fatigued and potentially crash.

Other elements focus on short trips, driving between 2 - 6am, which is one of the highest risk periods for falling asleep at the wheel – both on long and short trips.

The campaign targets road users aged 16-39, with a skew to males and regional areas.
