Seatbelts

Belt up before you kill someone

Do you know that if you don’t wear a seatbelt and you’re in a car crash, you are likely to collide with other car occupants and seriously injure or kill them?

The 2007/08 seatbelts campaign aims to educate road users that if you don’t wear a seatbelt and you’re in a car crash, you are likely to collide with other car occupants and seriously injure or kill them.

Campaign message

The Seatbelts campaign aims to educate road users that they should always wear a seatbelt.

The television commercial depictsthe damage an unrestrained passenger can do to other passengers in a minor accident. The commercial depicts a mother driving in a suburban area. She is killed in a relatively minor accident when her unrestrained teenage son is thrown forward from his seat into the back of her head.

Other elements of the campaign show the new penalty costs for unrestrained drivers and passengers and the emotional trauma of a mother whose son has been killed by an unrestrained mate in a car crash.

The campaign targets 16 to 39 year old road users, particularly males.

Child restraints

Please see 'print' section below for brochures that provide information on the correct fitting and use of seatbelts and child restraints in vehicles.
