While "buckling up" is a force of habit for the vast majority of people the number of occupants killed and injured in crashes who were not wearing seatbelts is still of great concern. Each year approximately 33% of driver and passenger fatalities and 13% of drivers and passengers seriously injured are not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Road safety research shows that wearing a seatbelt doubles your chance of surviving a serious crash. That's why it is so important that we continue to increase compliance with seatbelt usage to reduce serious injuries and save more lives each year.
